News

The University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University hosted the XIX Symposium of Mexican Studies and Students in the UK from 26th – 29th July 2022 in Aberdeen, the theme reflecting on a sustainable future.

The event is the most important gathering of the Mexican academic community in the UK.

During the 4 days they had 20+ speakers, 120+ in-person attendants, 54 paper and poster presentations, and their first industry session on 28th July 2022 was hosted by the NDC on offshore technology and policy for the energy transition. The session featured a tour around the research facilities of the NDC, including its state-of-the-art offshore operations simulator; and academic paper presentations.   NDC Director, Prof. Richard Neilson gave a welcome, followed by a showcase of NDC projects.

One of our NDC PhD students, Arturo Regalado Ruiz de Chavez was a member of the organising committee and is president of the Mexican Student Society at the University of Aberdeen.   Information on the Mexican community and further celebrations in Aberdeen can be found in the International Student Blogs of the University of Aberdeen.   There is also a Mexican Society Facebook page.

I feel very proud of what we achieved and what will come after this event.
