The NDC’s Dr Marcin Kapitaniak won the Success in Engagement with Industry Award at the University of Aberdeen Excellence Awards and the Data for Net Zero project was a finalist in the Interdisciplinary Research category.
Dr Kapitaniak, was nominated by NDC Director Professor Richard Neilson and industry partner Blackfish Engineering Design Ltd for his outstanding contribution to collaborative work with Blackfish and partners in support of the development of offshore renewable energy technology. Marcin’s expertise in simulation and technical leadership helped to advance the development of the innovative C-Dart quick connection system which was trialled and derisked using the marine simulator at the .
In addition to Dr Kapitaniak’s award, the Data for Net Zero Project, led by Malcolm Stone, was recognised as a finalist in the Interdisciplinary Research category.
The project has developed a range of tools to support decision making processes, specifically decommissioning costs and emissions for decommissioning scenarios. The team have made extensive use of the NDC’s marine simulator, incorporating visualisation capabilities for project outputs which have delivered a new level of insights and data interactivity for stakeholders.
The marine simulator at the NDC has provided excellent results for the development of our innovative quick mooring connector, C-DART. Detailed simulation of our technology offers a compelling demonstration to stakeholders and has greatly aided both development and customer engagement
