The NDC will showcase its Barrier Qualification and Test Services at the SPE Well Decommissioning conference at the P&J Live in Aberdeen on 6-7 June.
With delivery due in Q4 2023 the Barrier Qualification & Test Services is a £2m project which brings an industry-led portable onshore test facility for oil and gas well plugging and abandonment to the UK.
The design allows for the testing of new or existing barrier materials, such as bismuth alloys, thermite and resins, under high pressure and high temperature conditions which replicate suspended offshore and onshore well conditions.
Project delivery manager Dr Sergi Arnau said: “With 2000 plus wells to be decommissioned in the UKCS over the next ten years the Barrier Qualification and Test Services is an essential asset which allows for de-risking in the development and refinement of cost-effective P&A technologies. In-depth analysis will be provided post-test allowing for detailed data collection.”
